Firefox Security

I’m a big fan of Firefox – I use it and recommend it. There is a campaign currently claiming the Firefox is “safer” to use than IE. I do, honestly, believe this to be true on the whole. But it is definitely not flawless.

I’ve said before that this issue is often lost in the whole Free/Open Source (FOS) vs. Microsoft argument, but although through diligence and peer review the surface area may be less for security flaws in FOS products, it is not a guarantee. And as FOS products, like Firefox, become more mainstream, attacks will increase and flaws will be identified at a greater rate than the current trend. IEsp2 no longer allows the status bar to be omitted from a JavaScript opened window. Perhaps the Mozilla team will have to follow IE’s lead on this one? (That’d be a first in a long time!)
