Blogging critical mass

Dowbrigade: Approaching Critical Mass. [via Scripting News]

Interesting take on how blogs can, supposedly, change the world.

I’m a blogging fanatic, but take a look at my (very brief and incomplete) essay on Information Inequality and you’ll get an idea why I think that it’s all a bit too much hype.

Blogs are definitely changing the media scape, but there are some big hurdles to overcome before they start to have the impact that some commentators are suggesting. Namely, cost, and education of how to use computers, are two things, that although improving rapidly, remain massive (and I can’t understate that word – MASSIVE) barriers to many people, in developed and developing counrties alike.
