Thoughts that made it to the page

Wow. These past few weeks have been busy! Time for a bit of a run-down on what’s been happening.
I was on holidays last week. I went up north (that means Queensland) to visit some friends and my folks and relatives. Overall it was a great week. I was in Lismore for the first two days at a “reunion” get together with some close friends from my first time round doing the uni thang. It was really good to catch up with everyone, and to check out the uni, the shops and the pubs again! Hard to believe it’s been ten years since I left school and started university. Time flies…
Just before I left for hols my company launched a new product - NETaccounts. I was busy creating the new branding, the new website, letterheads and website, as well as putting the finishing touches on the product. It feels pretty good though! The website is going to morph in the next week or two to allow for expansion, but overall I’m pretty happy with the result.
I have deferred my course at UTS for 12 months. I did this for a number of reasons, but the primary one was that I have started a project that I want to devote a significant amount of time to, and that simply wasn’t possible when I was studying. So I’m giving it 12 months - if it doesn’t work out, I’ll be back at uni. If it does - woohoo! (more on the idea in a post to come)
But anyways, that’s kinda why the posts have been a bit sporadic here of late. Hopefully the consistency will return in the next couple of weeks.

We “soft launched” my company’s product website today. It’s called NETaccounts. I’ve been working like a silly bugger on the logo design, website design and corporate ID for the past week. Pretty happy with the result - a very different approach for me.

This week is a creative week. I’m in the process of designing two websites and a product logo. And on the weekend I head into the studio with my band to record at least three (but hopefully four) tracks.
Way cool. I’ve also started putting together some ideas for an artwork. This is a new experience for me - I’ve not done art ever before in my life, but for some reason, with a little prompting from friends, an idea has generated, and I hope to be able to actually finish it over the next few months.
Strange, but excellent all the same…

Well, uni is over, and holidays (from uni at least) are here! It’s been an interesting couple of months, challenging in many ways. I have posted two essays that I did for this semester’s coursework.
The first is on Information Inequality, providing a very basic overview of some of the issues relating to the Internet. The second is Moral Panic: Asylum Seekers which argues that the government and media have positioned the immigration and asylum seeker issue within the context of a moral panic.
I’ve also added links to them in the sidebar under the "Essays" heading. If you have any comments about either essay, my email address is included at the bottom of each essay.

I’m suddenly remembering what it was like to have uni assignments due. I HATE DEADLINES! I’ve spent most of my life routing around the ubiquitous “drop dead deadline” (deadlines are good, that’s how you get things done, but the drop-dead ones do exactly that - leave me for dead), and now I’m stuck in the middle of 5 essays due in 3 weeks. Ugh!
Anyways, posting on this blog is probably going to be a little light as a result…

See what happens when you let someone loose with a digital camera - they take incriminating pictures and post them on their blog!
This is a shot of Chris and Paul, friends from uni as we celebrated the conclusion of another Contemporary Cultures 1 class. I really enjoy the conversations that have been happening over a beer on a Monday night (they aren’t very healthy, but extremely illuminating), and I have borrowed a friend’s digital camera for a day or two so thought I’d capture a moment.
I plugged it into the eMac I have at home, and up popped iPhoto - found the camera, and imported the images. I didn’t have to do a thing. I cropped and de-redeyed it, and up it goes to my blog courtesy of MovableType. Only gripe - iPhoto’s export function doesn’t seem to work properly. I’ll have to upgrade to the current version and see if it’s any better.
Gotta get me one of these - there are so many things I could use it for (uni being one of them). It’s a Canon PowerShot S20 (3.3 megapixels) for anyone that’s interested - it’s about 2.5 years old, and it’s still great.
But don’t hold this photo against the camera. I’m a terrible shot!
