   You don’t realise what you’ve got til it’s gone. I find it incredible that it’s only after his death that his conservation efforts are being recognised, how typical. I’ve often thought of Steve as an inspiration and model to those of us who have dreams, but are too scared to realise them, to just go for it tooth and nail. As a father, he taught his kids life as he knew it, rebelling against the common misconception that parenthood spells death to a full and exciting life. He may have been an Ocker, he was certainly over-the-top, but what you saw was what you got, and he put his money where his mouth was. So raise your glasses and let’s toast The Croc Hunter and bid him farewell, “CRIKEY!”
