From a Greenpeace email out:
The NSW government is considering approving large-scale trials of genetically engineered (GE) canola throughout the state despite a three-year moratorium implemented by Bob Carr last year. The so called trials are attempts by agrochemical companies Monsanto and Bayer CropScience to secure a commercial release by stealth as the canola crop will be sold and the seeds collected for future use.
I’ve just finished reading Good News For A Change by David Suzuki – and I now firmly believe that GM crops are not something that we should be pursuing into the future. It is clear to me that organic, poly-cultural crops are a far better option both in terms of sustainability and ensuring that we don’t destroy the environment any more than we have already. And I am someone who was cautiously optimistic about GM crops a few months back.
