New Design

Last night a spent a few hours putting together the new site design you see here to replace the default Movable Type design. I was a little worried at first having not worked with MT’s template system before, but it all made a lot of sense when I started putting it together. I haven’t quite updated all the templates, but I will get to that soon…

It is a “pure” CSS design – no tables (except for the one that creates the Iraq Body Count banner in the sidebar). Thanks to glish.com for the basis of the CSS code (static width and centered, and Maniacal Rage for the inspiration (you’ll see the similarity! Update: Apology to Garrett), and the really cool date mechanism.

The design renders correctly on the PC under IE and Mozilla 1.1 (albeit a slight glitch under IE), and fine on Safari (Beta 2) and Mozilla (and Chimera/Camino) for Mac (tested under OS X). Mac IE 5.2 also works despite warnings to the contrary.

If you would like the templates for MT, let me know I’ll happily provide them under the Creative Commons license that applies to this site. If you would like to convert them for other blogging tools, also feel free to do so, again under the CC license.

And yes, that is a picture of me in the top right. My blog now has a face…
